BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
Robert D A KNUTSON, LL.B, LL.M, MSc, Mphil, He is a practicing international arbitrator and for the past six years has been the Canadian Member of the ICC Court of International Arbitration. He is a Chartered Arbitrator of the English Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He is also a member of the London Court of International Arbitration Panel, the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Panel of arbitrators and adjudicators, the AAA (ICDR) International Panel, the panel of the DIS (German Arbitration Institute), the Stockholm Chamber of Commence panel, the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) international panel, ACICA (Australia), the BCICAC; an accredited Chartered Institute of Arbitrators Construction Industry and TeCSA Adjudicator, a member of the Panel of Distinguished European Neutrals of the (US) CPR Institute and a Fellow of the Indian Council of Arbitration (FICA). He lectures regularly on international arbitration, dispute resolution and construction law and practice for, amongst others, the International Bar Association, the Swiss Arbitration Association, the ICC, the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and private organisations. Since 1982 much of his work has involved major international contracts, such as the North east Coal Project in British Columbia, software disputes, major roads, oil installations, pipelines, various type of plants, bridges, ports, power stations, hydro-electric projects, water supply projects, airports, tunnels and dams. His experience has included membership in the core team acting for the Channel Tunnel contractors in their major dispute with Eurotunnel, drafting some of the contracts for the Petronas Twin Towers buildings in Kuala Lumpur (KLCC), advising on water supply projects in Malaysia and Ghana, enforcing judgments and arbitration awards valued at up to US $1.5 Billion and acting as arbitrator in many varieties of disputes. He has recently been requested to arbitrate in international sale of goods, telecoms hardware, software, pipeline, joint venture shareholders and construction disputes. He recently sat as sole arbitrator in an ICC power plant dispute in India and is Chairman of a panel in an American/Japanese power plant dispute. Current cases as Counsel include a lubricants arbitration in Jordan for BP and an Egyptian Steel mill arbitration in London for a major German group. He is happily married and has 3 children – Olivia
