The first text is from William Sheppard's 'A Grand Abridgment of the Common and Statute Law of England', published in 1675. It is the first digest of the English law to be written in English.

We offer extracts from the section of the book headed Arbitrators and Arbitrement in the form of scanned images accompanied by a transcription of the text.

The second text on arbitration is taken from 'Commentaries on the Laws of England' by Sir William Blackstone (1765-1769).
